## Product Summary

ChatData is an AI-native data catalog and proof layer built for agents, not just humans. It gives Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenClaw, and other MCP-capable clients reviewed metric definitions, source references, proof receipts, caveats, validation rules, reviewer state, and saved answer paths.

Recurring metric answers are the first proof path. The strategic job is safer autonomous data and metric agents: if the metric route keeps failing, agents cannot safely rerun analysis, monitor anomalies, or act on business metrics without human cleanup.

## Supported Client Paths

- Claude Code: remote ChatData MCP plus the required ChatData Claude Code plugin for slash commands, prompt/source-read hooks, status line, and local workflow help.
- Cursor: remote ChatData MCP only.
- Codex: remote ChatData MCP only when remote HTTP MCP is supported.
- Generic MCP clients: remote ChatData MCP only.

The Claude plugin is required only for Claude Code. Do not install the Claude plugin for Cursor, Codex, or generic MCP clients.

## Trust Contract

For KPI, traffic, funnel, revenue, retention, conversion, activation, usage, or other business-metric questions:

1. Pull ChatData context before direct source tools.
2. Resolve the approved metric definition, source, freshness, caveat, proof receipt, or saved answer path.
3. Query live systems only after the context pass unless the user explicitly requests a raw source check.
4. Downgrade to clarification or analyst review when approved context is missing.
5. Write back reusable proof, metric cards, answer paths, or guarded context patches for human review.

Trusted answers should expose source path, freshness, validation result, caveats, business-context check, uncertainty state, review state, and rerun path.

## When To Use ChatData

- Repeated KPI and metric questions.
- Metric-definition and source-of-truth lookup.
- Saved answer paths for recurring reviews.
- Proof receipts for dashboard, SQL, spreadsheet, or document-backed answers.
- Review-gated context patches that should improve future AI runs.
- Scheduled monitors or automated intelligence agents built on already-reviewed routes.

## When Not To Use ChatData

- Do not use ChatData to bypass source permissions or workspace access controls.
- Do not store raw rows, secrets, credentials, personal inboxes, or sensitive customer records in ChatData context.
- Do not call a metric answer trusted when it skipped ChatData context, lacks approved context, or cannot show proof.
- Do not treat Slack or Telegram as the active buyer-facing analytics surface unless ChatData explicitly reactivates those lanes.
